This course is designed to introduce middle school students to gardening without the use of syntetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
Topics covered will include: soil basics, plant needs and nutrition, fertilizers, amendments, composting, coastal cultivars, soil preparation and planting, plant disease and pests, irrigation, maintenance, seeds, and more!
Students will engage in a variety of studies focused on agriculture, local food production, landscaping, flowers/ornamentals, low-maintenance cultivars, native species, as well as projects including research, design, experimentation, analysis, and communication.
