Mendocino High School Improv Club
January & February 2017
Doug Nunn-Coach

The Mendocino High School Improv and Comedy Club will begin workshops on January 3, 2017 leading to shows in mid-February. The Improv Club has been producing shows on and off beginning in the early 1990s. Since 2000 we have had yearly Improv Comedy Revues, with Mendo teens entertaining standing-room-only crowds for two nights each February. Recent shows include 2016's I am Henry(and so can you), 2015's Touch My Gabriel, 2014's Streakers on the Nudist Beach, 2013's The Democratic People's Improv Team of North Korea Tickles Your Laugh Hole, 2012's Too Moist to Handle, 2011's Three Nuns in a Tub with a Garden Gnome, 2010's Bearshark, the Musical, 2009's My Fancy Cubicle presents Balloons, 2008’s My Great Aunt Mergatroid Took Sexy Away!, 2007's Every Hour is Happy Hour, 2006's Skips, Skops, Skanks, and Skaliwags, 2005's That's a Lot of Nuts, and  2004's show--The Slave Labor Comedy Tour presents “Come to Beautiful Hawaii”.

Our schedule starts with twice weekly improv & performing workshops the first week of January. We work out Tuesdays and Thursday for two hours after school until mid-February, doing acting exercises and improv games, until we premiere our totally improvised shows on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, February 15 & 16. The show features Mendo High students who will be improvising scenes based on audience suggestion(there are no scripts).  Players learn the basics of performing and stagecraft and invariably seem to have a good time along the way. The workshops are coached and the show is directed by Doug Nunn.  San Francisco musical improviser Laura Derry backs up the group on keyboards for the performances.

Students who are interested should sign up with Doug Nunn in his room(next to the Computer and Media Labs) on Wednesday, December 1st at lunchtime.  Afterwards you can sign up with Doug or with the Improv Club sign up sheet in the office. First practices will be Tuesday, January 3 from 3:30 to 5:30 and Thursday, January 5 from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Matheson Performing Arts Center.  For further information, please contact Doug Nunn at 937-0360 or write me an email at dnunn@mcn.org
